The Swedish Evaluation Society (SES) was founded in January 2003, and is thus a relatively young national, professional and independent organization. The Swedish Evaluation Society's members come from all walks of life; researchers, analysts, consultants and others with a professional interest in evaluation in both the public and the private sector. Membership is also open to institutions.

Purpose

The purpose of the Swedish Evaluation Society to promote a pluralistic approach to evaluation and to encourage different scientific and professional perspectives on evaluation. The Swedish Evaluation Society offers a forum where members are welcome to discuss and debate evaluation and exchange experiences. According to the statutes the purpose of the Swedish Evaluation Society is to

  • promote a continuous and multi-faceted discussion on evaluation, the role of evaluators in society and the influence over evaluation processes.
  • promote the practical and multidisciplinary competence among evaluators.
  • promote the international contacts of the Swedish evaluation community.

Activities

The biennial evaluation conference is the most significant activity of the Swedish Evaluation Society. The first conference was organised in 2004, the second in 2005, the third in 2007 and the fourth took place in Stockholm October 2009. The conferences have been much appreciated and attracted over 250 participants each.

Between conferences there are thematic working groups, where members interested in a particular question meet and debate. We have had such working groups on the subjects of:

  • evidence
  • quality
  • evaluation systems
  • integrated evaluation functions

There are also networks of evaluators in other southern and western Sweden who meet regularly.

The Swedish Evaluation Society publishes newsletters and maintains this website.
